Camera Club is proud to present its 2008 Photography Contest and Sale
at the St. Martin Community Center on March 14th and 15th.
About the Contest
Welcome
to Scranton Camera Club's 2008 Photography contest. Once a year,
we sponsor a contest which gives club members and local area photographers an opportunity to
compete for prizes and to be recognized for their achievements in the
art of photography. Our last
contest was a huge success, and we expect this year's contest to
be bigger and better yet.
Who may enter?
The
general public is invited to participate. Persons of any
skill level may enter, from beginner to professional. There is
no age limit.
How do I enter, and what is the timetable?
Full details for the contest, as well as the entry form, are provided on this webpage. One form must be filled out for each entry. Click here for the downloadable entry form. Rules and entry forms are also available in print form at the St. Martin library and the Gautier library. Completed
entry forms and payment must accompany entries. The cost to enter each photograph is $5.00. Only cash and checks will be accepted.
* March 5 through 12: Contest entries will be received at the St. Martin and Gautier libraries during regular business hours.
The public is invited to our Main Event March 14-15. The judges will have determined the winners prior to this time.
* March 14 (Friday):
The public is invited to view the contest photography
and photography for sale from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00
p.m., at the St. Martin Community Center on LeMoyne Blvd. The awards ceremony and reception will begin at 7:00 p.m. * March 15 (Saturday): Public viewing of contest and sale photography will be from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
* March 15 (Saturday): Takedown from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Contest photos must be claimed during this time.
What are the Categories?
There
are 10 categories in this year's contest. Your entry will be judged according to the
category in which it is entered, so give some thought as to which is the best
fit for your entry. 1 . Domesticated Animals and Pets: Examples: Cats, dogs, horses, farm animals.
2 . Wildlife: Wild animals living an undomesticated state. Examples: Alligators, herons, giraffes.
3. People: Examples: Family, couples, kids, sports shots. *
4. Elements of Design (includes Architecture): Photos which emphasize pattern, line texture, perspective, or shape. These may be of any subject. *
5. Horticulture: Examples: Fruits, flowers, plants, trees, garden plants.
6. Black and White (or Sepia): These may be of any subject. *
7. Nature and Landscapes: Examples: Sunsets, seascapes, streams, mountains.
8. Macro and Details: Examples for macro: Insects, water droplets, spider webs, etc. Examples for Details (this is a closeup of a larger object): A cat's eye, cantaloupe skin, cracks in a wall.
9. Digital Darkroom: Photos which are obviously altered with image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop. These may be of any subject. *
10. Still Life: Images of inanimate objects. Examples: A vase of flowers, a bowl of fruit.
* Images depicting nudity or violence will not be accepted.
Will there be prizes?
Yes.
Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, as
well as Honorable Mention. There will be a cash award of $25.00
for 1st place winners, $15.00 for 2nd place winners, and $5.00 for 3rd place winners. There will also be a $100.00 cash award for the Best In Show winner.
Limitations and Conditions
* Pre-matted
image sizes may not be smaller than 8" x 10", nor larger
than 12" x 18". Images larger or smaller than these designated
sizes will not be accepted.
* Each person is limited to 3 entries per category.
* All images must be matted, and must not be framed or put behind glass. No exceptions. Clear protective covers (such as Clearbags) are allowed.
* No
photograph may be entered except by the original photographer, and it must
be entirely his or her own creation. No photograph which has been entered in a
previous Scranton Camera Club contest is eligible.
* Neither the libraries, nor the
Scranton Camera Club, nor the St. Martin Community Center will be
liable for damage or loss of any person's entries.
Also, please note:
*
Judges will have the right to award or not award prizes/ribbons at
their discretion. The decisions of the judges are final.
* Scranton Camera Club reserves the right to refuse images that it deems unsuitable.
* Repeating: All contest entries must
be claimed at the Community Center from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on
Saturday,
March 15th.
